Peace Action Backs Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan’s Open U.S. Senate Seat
Nation’s largest grassroots peace organization says “Abdul’s voice is a rare necessity”
ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN – Today, U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed announced the endorsement of Peace Action, the nation’s largest grassroots peace organization.
“Peace Action is proud to endorse Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan’s U.S. Senate race,” said Lilly Dragnev, National Engagement and Campaigns Director of Peace Action. “In a political landscape too often dominated by special interests, Abdul’s voice is a rare necessity. He understands what too many in power ignore: while billionaires amass obscene wealth, working families struggle to get by. He’s witnessed firsthand how distorted our priorities have become — policymakers regularly divert resources from human needs like healthcare, education, and infrastructure to fuel endless militarism and Pentagon waste. And he’s ready to push back.”
Abdul has been an unflinching critic of the use of U.S. taxpayer money to inflict violence abroad while too many Americans struggle to get by. On Friday, Abdul released a video calling out Congress for funding a foreign military that is imposing genocide and mass starvation in Gaza. He is the only candidate in the race to speak out on the issue.
“Abdul is the type of leader we need: one who will fight for justice, human rights, and peace without compromise,” Dragnev continued. “He’ll put people over corporate profits and challenge a broken system that serves the few at the expense of the many. Peace Action is honored to stand with him.”
Peace Action joins a growing coalition behind Abdul’s campaign, including Senator Bernie Sanders, Congressman Ro Khanna, and more than a dozen state and local elected officials.
“I’m honored to have the support of Peace Action, and grateful for their leadership in our fight to disrupt the war machine that’s diverting money we should be using to provide food, education, and healthcare here at home to fight wars abroad,” said Abdul El-Sayed. “In the richest country in the world, we can afford to guarantee healthcare and invest in education. But too often, our taxpayer dollars are sent abroad to bankroll violence, while our communities here at home struggle to get by. I’m running for Senate to change that, to promote investment in our people and fight for a foreign policy rooted in human rights and dignity. We need leaders who are willing to say: no more blank checks for foreign militaries. No more silence while children starve.”
