Abdul El-Sayed Responds to Layoffs: “General Motors should care more about their workers than Wall Street”

MICHIGAN – Following news that General Motors is immediately laying off more than 1,000 Detroit workers, U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed released the following statement:

“1,200 Michigan workers are about to lose their income and their health insurance—right before the holidays. And it’s not like GM can’t afford to reassign them. Last year alone, GM’s $30M CEO authorized the company to spend $6 billion to buy its own stocks to inflate its stock price, rather than innovating to protect jobs for their workers. This used to be illegal. Now it’s being weaponized to throw workers out in the cold. Companies should care more about their workers than Wall Street.”
