Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib Endorses Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate
DETROIT, MI – Tonight, at the Detroit stop of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed’s statewide “Open Our Healthcare” town hall tour, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib took the stage to endorse Abdul for U.S. Senate. Congresswoman Tlaib represents Michigan’s 12th congressional district, encompassing portions of Wayne and Oakland counties, in the U.S. House of Representatives. Abdul and Rep. Tlaib spoke with over 100 attendees in Northwest Detroit about the crushing medical debt held by Americans across the country, the GOP’s refusal to protect ACA subsidies, and the fight for Medicare for All.
“I’m proud to endorse Abdul El-Sayed to be our next Senator,” said Congresswoman Tlaib. “As a health equity champion and Medicare for All advocate, Abdul leads with a grassroots vision for change centered on inclusion and dignity for Michigan families. He has long been a fighter — we were arrested together in 2018 while protesting for a $15 minimum wage — and he is fighting now to kick money out of politics, tackle our affordability crisis, and build a stronger, healthier Michigan.”

The Congresswoman joins U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Congressman Ro Khanna (CA-17), Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, and over three dozen state, county, and local elected officials backing Abdul’s campaign. Abdul continues to build a diverse, growing coalition, generating the momentum essential for winning the August primary and the November election.
“Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is one of the most driven, committed representatives that Michiganders have in Washington,” said Abdul. “From demanding CEOs pay their fair share to standing for Medicare for All to running one of the best constituent services offices in the country, Rashida exemplifies true public service. It is an honor to have her support.”
