Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal Endorses Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate
ANN ARBOR, MI – Today, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-7) endorsed Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate. The Congresswoman represents Seattle and the surrounding areas, serving her fifth term in Congress. Congresswoman Jayapal serves as the Chair Emeritus of the Congressional Progressive Caucus after leading the Caucus as chairwoman for six years. She is a lead sponsor of the Medicare for All act, garnering support from over 100 House Members. Congresswoman Jayapal authored the foreword to Abdul’s book, Medicare for All: A Citizen’s Guide.
“Abdul El-Sayed is the fighter Michigan needs right now,” said Congresswoman Jayapal. “He isn’t afraid to take on corporate power and stand up for people over profits. We’ve fought side-by-side to build a movement for Medicare for All because Abdul understands that healthcare is a human right. He has spent his career delivering for working families, erasing millions in medical debt and fighting for communities that have been left behind. Abdul is a principled and compassionate public servant and I’m proud to endorse him for U.S. Senate.”
“Congresswoman Jayapal is an unwavering voice for working people,” said Abdul. “She has powered the movement for Medicare for All in Washington and is deeply committed to ensuring every person in this country has quality, affordable care. Getting her start as an organizer, she has never shied away from taking on corporate power. Earning Congresswoman Jayapal is a true honor and I’m proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with her in this movement.”
Congresswoman Jayapal is the fourth sitting member of Congress to endorse Abdul, joining U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Congressman Ro Khanna (CA-17), and Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12). Abdul has also earned endorsements from former Michigan Congressman Andy Levin, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, and more than three dozen statewide and local elected officials.
