IATSE Local 26 Endorses Dr.Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate
MICHIGAN – Today, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, (IATSE) Local 26, representing stagehands, audio technicians, lighting technicians, wardrobe, and other specialized crafts in live and recorded entertainment in West Michigan, endorsed Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate.
“It is with great pride that I announce that IATSE Local 26, the West Michigan Stagehands Union, voted to endorse Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate last week on Feb. 26, 2026.” said Tom Burke, President of IATSE Local 26. “We stand in solidarity with you and appreciate the pro-worker, pro-union stands you take. As our candidate for U.S. Senator from Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed speaks to the immediate demands of workers: for more money in our pockets, for healthcare for all, and to get corporate money out of politics.”
“I’m deeply honored to receive the endorsement of IATSE Local 26.” said Abdul. “The skilled men and women of this union power West Michigan stages, studios, and live events with professionalism and pride. As Greater Grand Rapids has become a growing hub of entertainment and live production, their craftsmanship and dedication are on full display. Across all industries, I’m in the fight right alongside union workers for fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity on the job. I’m grateful for IATSE Local 26’s support, and proud to stand alongside them as we fight for an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.”
Abdul has been a card-carrying member of AFT Local 477 and 6244, SEIU Local 500, the National Writers Union, and the AAUP. He has marched with OPEIU, Teamsters and the UAWjoining all three organizations at several strikes. Abdul’s dedication to labor extends to all of his policies, most recently in his Labor Policy Agenda, where he outlines his plan to empower unions as a U.S. Senator.
IATSE Local 26 joins a broad coalition backing Abdul’s campaign, including Senator Bernie Sanders, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, and more than 120 other state and local elected officials, community leaders, and advocacy groups.
