ICYMI: Abdul El-Sayed Turns in 30,000 Signatures, Highlights Strength of Grassroots Support Across Michigan

LANSING, MI – Today, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed traveled to the Bureau of Elections to officially submit nearly 30,000 petition signatures to secure his place on the ballot in Michigan’s highly competitive U.S. Senate primary. Immediately following submission, Abdul was joined by a slew of volunteers and supporters for a press conference celebrating the campaign’s achievement and the people-first movement behind it.

The campaign’s success in receiving the necessary number of signatures showcases its broad statewide reach. The campaign has recruited over 4,000 volunteers, 531 of whom circulated ballot petitions, spanning rural communities, major cities and college campuses. Signatures were collected from voters in each of the state’s 83 counties, demonstrating Abdul’s ability to connect with voters across geographical and political divides.

“The folks who collected these signatures were volunteers who decided they wanted to be a part of our democracy,” said Abdul. “These are people who decided to come together around our shared goals to get money out of politics, put money back in Michiganders’ pockets, and pass Medicare for All. I am so grateful for each and every one of our dedicated volunteers who have put their time and energy into building this movement. We can build the world we need and deserve, but we can only do it together.”

The Abdul campaign will continue expanding its statewide organizing efforts, mobilizing volunteers to phone bank and knock doors and engage with voters from both sides of the aisle ahead of the upcoming election.
