Abdul El-Sayed Announces Endorsement from Hon. David Bonior

MICHIGAN – Today, Abdul El-Sayed announced the endorsement of former Michigan Congressman and Democratic whip David Bonior. A fierce labor advocate during and after his tenure in Congress, Bonior represented Macomb and St. Clair counties in Michigan from 1977 to 2002, served as the majority whip from 1991 to 1995, and as the minority whip from 1995 to 2002.

“Our country and Michigan need a doctor in the U.S. Senate who will put working people first as they struggle to make ends meet,” said Hon. David Bonior. “Dr. El-Sayed has devoted his life’s work to their causes. He is a strong, decent man for a better Michigan and for our country’s renewal.”

“David Bonior’s legacy in Congress as a leading voice against US military intervention abroad  and a champion of working people is unmatched, and I’m honored to receive his endorsement,” said Abdul. “He understands that a steadfast commitment to people over politics is what it takes not just to win, but to deliver. From his work leading opposition to NAFTA to fighting for environmental justice, Bonior’s work as a legislator served the people of southeastern Michigan well, and I hope to continue the work he started as Michigan’s next senator.”

Bonior joins a growing list of former and current federal elected officials who have endorsed Abdul, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Ro Khanna (CA-17), Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Summer Lee (PA-12), the Hon. Andy Levin, and Minnesota AG Keith Ellison. Beyond these, Abdul has earned support from over 150 state and local elected officials, community leaders, unions and advocacy groups, including National Nurses United, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, two local Indivisible chapters, and more.
