ICYMI: UAW-Endorsed U.S. Senate Candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed Joins American Axle Workers on the Picket Line
THREE RIVERS, MI – On Friday, U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed met with UAW Local 2093 members on strike at American Axle in Three Rivers, MI. Workers are demanding a fair contract and to raise wages at the plant to $30 by 2030 as the company’s CEO was paid $111 million over the last decade.

“We are going to make sure that they hear you nationwide,” Abdul said to workers at the picket line. “Because this story is a story, yeah, about Dauch in Three Rivers, but it’s a story about corporate greed all over the country because you’ve got working people who’ve made this possible, who took concessions in the hardest moment to keep this place open, only to watch a corporation profit off of your work, only to share none of that return with you. And we want to live in an America where workers prosper, not an America where CEOs and C-suite executives get to take more and more for less and less. So you standing up here is not just you standing up for the thousand members of Local 2093. You’re standing up for working people all over this country to show folks that when corporations get greedy, the workers will stand up, the workers will come together, and the workers will fight back.”
Also on Friday, Abdul received the endorsement of the UAW, who also announced their support for Jocelyn Benson in the gubernatorial race. As reported by Michigan Advance, “the endorsement sent shockwaves through Michigan political circles and solidified Benson and El-Sayed as the main players in their separate hunts for the Democratic nomination in the upcoming Aug. 4 primary.”
