Dr. Abdul El-Sayed Announces Endorsement from New Jersey Congressional Candidate Dr. Adam Hamawy
MICHIGAN – Today, newly nominated New Jersey congressional candidate, Dr. Adam Hamawy announced his endorsement of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate. A surgeon and a decorated army veteran, Dr. Hamawy has spent his life serving others. During his residency, he treated victims and first responders in a field hospital at Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks. He later rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and served as a combat trauma surgeon in Iraq. Since returning home, Dr. Hamawy has worked in New Jersey emergency rooms, built a surgical practice in Princeton, and volunteered for medical missions in conflict and disaster zones across the globe.
“Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is running on a simple message: money out of politics, money in your pocket, Medicare for All,” said Dr. Hamawy. “This is what the American people want. Because of our experiences, we both know that patients and providers are getting screwed by a healthcare system that puts profit over people. It is time for a new generation of leaders unafraid to challenge entrenched corrupt interests and win an America that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few. Abdul has my full support and I look forward to working with him in Congress.”
“Dr. Hamawy knows what it means to serve those in need,” said Abdul. “People are looking for leaders with moral fortitude, something that Dr. Hamawy has demonstrated time and time again. As doctors, we all take the same oath to care for people when they need us the most, and that commitment doesn’t just end in a clinical setting – it extends into our politics as well. We both believe that affordable, high-quality healthcare isn’t a privilege, it’s a right. I’m proud to have his support and look forward to working together in Congress to pass Medicare for All and fight for a system that treats everyone with dignity and respect.”
This endorsement follows Hamawy’s decisive victory in one of New Jersey’s most competitive Democratic primaries where he secured the party’s nomination for the 12th Congressional District, putting him on track to become one of the few physicians serving in Congress.
Dr. Hamawy joins a long list of federal office holders backing Abdul. Abdul has received endorsements from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Ro Khanna (CA-17), Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Summer Lee (PA-12), Delia Ramirez (IL-3), Analilia Meija (NJ-11), Maxwell Frost (FL-10), Ilhan Omar (MI-05), Lateefah Simon (CA-12) Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, the Hon. David Bonior and the Hon. Andy Levin. Beyond members of Congress, Abdul has earned support from over 200 elected officials, advocacy groups, and labor unions, including the UAW, Indivisible, the Working Families Party, National Nurses United, and more.
