Abdul El-Sayed Honors Lives Lost on September 11

Abdul: “They tried to diminish America. They tried to make her smaller. They tried to turn us against each other. They failed.”

MICHIGAN – This morning, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed released a video statement marking the anniversary of the September 11 attacks and honoring the lives lost that day.

Abdul said, in part:

“They didn’t just attack America, that day. They attacked the idea of America. The notion of a nation brought together by ideals — where it doesn’t matter how you pray or if you pray at all. A place where freedom and commitment to justice bind us even if, at times, we struggle to fully realize it.

“Today, on 9/11, we honor the lives that were taken from us in a terrible act of terrorism. Nothing can justify the murder of innocent civilians. Nothing. And on this day we mourn the victims, their families, and the destruction those terrorists caused. 

“They tried to diminish America. They tried to make her smaller. They tried to turn us against each other. They failed.

“And we honor today the memories of those who were lost by doing what her attackers and detractors could never do. By building. We build an America that is bigger. More inclusive. More empowering. More just.”

Earlier this morning, Abdul attended the City of Lansing 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 people whose lives were stolen by this heinous act of terrorism. Watch the full video statement here.
