On the affordability crisis:
Abdul: “The [issue] that I hear the most is groceries. People tell me about how they skimp, and they’ll name specific groceries that they skimp on. The first one that you hear all the time is meat. It’s a lot harder to afford a pound of meat. [Even] the price of peanut butter has skyrocketed… That’s what’s frustrating so many people. It literally feels like drowning in costs.”
On the broad coalition of Democrats backing his campaign:
Abdul: “I had a really great conversation with the Senate Minority Leader. And the thing we all agree on is that we need to win Michigan. We need to win back the Senate. We need to hold Donald Trump accountable. Now, of course, the party is big. There have been disagreements… [but] the party wants me to win. They understand that there is no pathway to the Senate majority without my winning, and they’re invested in this race.”
On connecting with voters of all faiths and backgrounds:
Abdul: “Here in America, the beauty is that we’re not as small as they think us to be. In America, people come together beyond our differences, to build something greater than the sum of our parts. We are willing to get to know each other and embrace each other and invest in each other.”
On what his campaign is all about:
Abdul: “[This campaign] is about the affordability of gas and groceries. It’s about the corruption of our government in the form of corporations buying off politicians like Mike Rogers, who is the chosen sock puppet for Donald Trump. And it’s about guaranteeing people health care in the richest, most powerful country in the world. And I’m going to go everywhere I can to talk about that, because I know that those things are important, and that’s what Michiganders need me to be fighting for.”
