NEW: As Big Tech Billionaires Let AI Wreak Havoc, Abdul El-Sayed Releases Plan To Get AI Under Control

Plan Builds On Sanders-Casar Bill To Ban AI Superintelligence And Impose Severe Criminal Penalties For AI Abuse

New Proposals Address Growing Concerns In Wake Of AI Whistleblowers, Follows Release Of  Abdul’s AI Under Democracy Proposal

In Stark Contrast, Mike Rogers Has Up To $2.6 Million In Investments In Tech Companies That Stand To Benefit From AI Boom, Calls Concerns About AI “Fearmongering”

MICHIGAN –  Today, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is releasing his proposal to get AI Under Control to combat the growing existential risks of unrestrained artificial intelligence to humanity.

“Right now, the whims of a few tech billionaires are the only thing stopping AI from developing to the point that it poses an existential threat to humanity. That is unacceptable. It’s time to get AI Under Control. At an absolute minimum, I’m calling for a pause in AI frontier development. We need immediate guardrails in place that ensure all risks to human safety are fully contained,” said Abdul El-Sayed. “My opponent Mike Rogers has dismissed concerns about AI as ‘fearmongering’ while conveniently having up to $2.6 million directly invested in companies that stand to benefit from the AI boom. Donald Trump, Mike Rogers, and their Big Tech billionaire donors can’t be trusted to keep either Michigan or humanity safe from the existential dangers of unrestrained AI.”

Shocking recent reports from AI whistleblowers have sounded the alarm on the dangers posed by this emerging technology.

Abdul had previously announced his AI Under Democracy proposal to place a check on Big Tech, calling for public ownership of frontier AI labs and implementation of strict AI No-Gos, including a ban on autonomous weapons and warrantless surveillance. He is now adding new proposals to his plan with additional guardrails to get AI Under Control to protect Michiganders and humanity at-large from tech oligarchs who care only about their bottom line.

Abdul’s plan builds off of the Sanders-Casar proposal and calls to ban AI superintelligence, create a Cabinet-level independent AI watchdog agency, and establish severe criminal penalties for corporations and individuals abusing AI for malicious purposes.

Abdul’s plan also calls for creating AI whistleblower protections, implementing a national AI safety emergency plan, and requiring mandatory breach auditing of all AI systems.

In stark contrast, Mike Rogers has dismissed concerns about AI, calling it “fearmongering” while he has millions invested in companies that stand to profit from AI and data centers.

  • Mike Rogers has dismissed concerns from young people that AI could cause job losses, saying, “I’m in a company right now that uses A.I., so I’m sure they’re terrifying you young students, that A.I. is going to kill you, and take your job, and stuff you in a trunk, right? Oh man, the fearmongering of all of that A.I. stuff.”

Rogers’ latest financial disclosure shows up to millions of dollars in investments in tech companies that stand to  benefit from the AI and data center boom:

  • Rogers “holds between $1.7 million and $2.6 million in companies” that stand to financially benefit from a “streamlined permitting process for AI-related developments.”
  • Rogers also holds “between $100,001 and $250,000 worth of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust” — a real estate giant that is helping “develop a massive 1.6 million square-foot data center” in Saline worth $16 billion.

The Lever also reports that Rogers has raised “nearly $150,000 in campaign cash from a number of individuals with AI and data center investments.”

  • “Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, staunch Trump supporters and investors in multiple AI companies, together gave $14,000 to Rogers’ campaign.”
  • “Seven executives from private equity firm Blackstone donated $34,500, disclosures show.”
