The Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters Endorses Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate

The North Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters Represents more than 36,000 workers across the midwest

MICHIGAN – Today, the Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters (NMRCC) announced its endorsement of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate, adding another critical labor union to the growing coalition backing his campaign. Representing more than 36,000 skilled union members across the midwest, the NMRCC and their members will be essential in Abdul’s fight to get money out of politics, put money in your pockets, and pass Medicare for All.

The NMRCC helps protect the safety, working conditions and wages of carpenters, millwrights, pile drivers, floorcoverers, and interior systems and industrial professionals across the midwest. The NMRCC ensures that their members are provided with good healthcare coverage, a reliable pension, safe job sites, and extensive, state-of-the-art craft training.

“Abdul will tackle corporate corruption on behalf of working people,” said Tom Lutz, Executive-Secretary Treasurer of the Northern Midwest Carpenters. “He’s the fighter we need today, and we are proud to stand with him.”

“I am incredibly proud to have earned the support of the Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters, one of North America’s oldest and most respected labor unions,” said Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, candidate for US Senate. “The over 36,000 craft workers who make up the NMRCC keep our society running, and, as Michigan’s next senator, I look forward to working with them to ensure that their work is valued and protected. In the United States Senate, we will work together to fight for fair wages and dignity for all union workers.”

Abdul’s opponent, Mike Rogers spent his 20 years in office voting against the interests of workers every chance he got.

  • Rogers backed efforts to strip millions of workers of overtime.
  • Rogers voted to repeal wage protections for construction workers.

  • Rogers opposed increasing the state minimum wage to $5.15 per hour and opposed increasing the federal minimum wage.
  • During his 2024 campaign, union leaders attacked Rogers for enriching himself and large corporations rather than advocating for Michiganders.

The NMRCC joins a broad pro-worker coalition fighting to elect Abdul to the United States Senate, including the Michigan AFL-CIO, UAW, LiUNA, Teamsters Joint Council 43, Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters, National Nurses United, AFT, MEA, AFGE, IATSE Local 26, GEO Local 3550, UA Local 174, and more than 300 elected officials, advocacy groups, and labor unions.
