NEW: Abdul El-Sayed Leads Field in New Emerson College Poll with 8 point Swing in His Favor
MICHIGAN – A new Emerson College poll released today showed the strength of Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign, finding Abdul with 24 percent support among Democratic primary voters, leading the Democratic primary field. The poll shows Abdul gaining eight points since January, the largest increase of any candidate in the race, while his opponents either only saw marginal increases or even lost support in the same time period.

This latest poll, conducted earlier this week, shows a clear generational divide in how voters see the future of the Democratic party here in Michigan with Abdul far and away the leader among voters under 40, leading McMorrow by a 17 point margin. Abdul is also leading among Black voters at 26 percent, ahead of Stevens’ 20 percent, and McMorrow at just 15.
“We’re gaining ground because we’re talking about the issues that actually matter to Michiganders,” said Abdul. “This is about providing a vision for what we can have: standing up to corporations for the people to provide guaranteed healthcare, affordable housing, good schools and an economy that works for working people. Voters across the state understand that Michigan needs a Senator who isn’t bought and actually fights for the things we need and deserve. We’ll keep going everywhere and talking to everyone because we have the winning message. And we’re just getting started.”
With 36% of voters still undecided, these results point to a wide-open race with clear momentum on the side of the El-Sayed campaign. The next three and half months provide opportunity for continued growth as more voters learn about Abdul’s vision for affordable healthcare, economic justice, and accountable government. This momentum appears in Abdul’s fundraising numbers as well, with the last seven days of the quarter alone bringing in over $800,000.
