Dr. Abdul El-Sayed Earns Two Critical Wayne County Endorsements: Wayne County Commissioner Martha G. Scott & Detroit City Councilmember Denzel McCampbell

DETROIT, MI – Today, U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed announced endorsements from two new Wayne County elected officials, Commissioner Martha G. Scott and Detroit City Councilmember Denzel McCampbell (District 7).

“This political moment calls for elected officials who will push for bold policies that will answer the needs of our neighbors. I believe that Abdul El-Sayed will be that person as the next United States Senator from the state of Michigan,” said Councilmember McCampbell. “Michiganders deserve a health care system that is focused on making us healthier instead of draining our savings. We deserve a political system that is of, by, and for the people, not corporation and billionaire interests. We deserve a government that is laser focused on improving our quality of life. I have great confidence that Abdul will be that voice for us in the United States Senate and I’m proud to endorse his campaign.”

In his past work fighting for Detroiters, Councilmember McCampbell has advocated for clean water, expanded labor rights, and racial justice, establishing McCampbell as a dedicated and effective community advocate and legislator.

First elected to the commission in 2008, Commissioner Martha G. Scott has focused on economic development, public health, and expanding access to essential services for working families and seniors. A former state legislator and community advocate, she has built a reputation for championing neighborhood investment and equitable policies throughout her decades of service.

“I chaired Wayne County’s Health & Human Services committee while Dr. El-Sayed served as the Wayne County Health Director,” said Commissioner Scott. “Under his leadership, the county led on life-changing efforts to eliminate medical debt, tackle opioid overdose, provide health insurance, and tackle air pollution. I saw firsthand his rare combination of passion for the people we served and technical competence—and we need that in the U.S. Senate. There are a lot of candidates who come to our communities and tell us they care. Abdul has been here and shown how much he cares.”

“I’m deeply grateful to have earned Commissioner Scott’s and Councilman McCampbell’s support and for the example they’ve set over their years of service to Wayne County,” said Abdul. “They both understand firsthand the challenges Michigan families are facing every day, from rising costs and gaps in healthcare to the need for real investment in our communities. This campaign is about carrying that fight forward. It’s about guaranteeing healthcare as a human right, rebuilding and investing in our neighborhoods, and ensuring that no matter your ZIP code, you have a fair shot at the means to a dignified life. With leaders like them by our side, we’re not just building momentum, we’re building a movement.”

These endorsements are the newest additions to an extensive list of Wayne County endorsers, including three other Wayne County Commissioners, Detroit City Councilmember Gabriela Santiago-Romero, Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans, Wayne County Treasurer Eric Sabree, Detroit Police Commissioner Ricardo Moore, Rev. Horace Sheffield III, six state representatives, and numerous other community advocates.
