Dr. Abdul El-Sayed Secures Endorsements from Statewide (SWIM) and National Indivisible
MICHIGAN – Today, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed announced earning the support of both Statewide Indivisible Michigan (SWIM) and Indivisible (National), coalitions representing Indivisible groups across the state and the nation. Indivisible is a nationwide grassroots movement, with chapters in all 50 states, whose members are dedicated to defending democracy and building people power. Following an endorsement process, more than 80% of participating statewide Indivisible groups in the state voted to endorse Abdul for U.S. Senate.
“Statewide Indivisible Michigan (SWIM) is pleased to endorse Abdul El-Sayed for Senate,” said Naomi Ernest, member of SWIM core team. “SWIM is comprised of Indivisible groups from all across Michigan. Member groups remain fully autonomous to make decisions as they see fit, and during the SWIM endorsement process, each group used its own internal procedures to determine its vote. The issues across our state are wide-ranging, and if you asked the groups, no doubt you would discover a variety of reasons for how they voted. This makes it all-the-more impressive that, of the votes cast, Abdul received a resounding 80%. SWIM appreciates the resolve each group and its members put into this process. They’ve made their voices heard, and SWIM is proud to announce the statewide endorsement of Abdul El-Sayed for Senate.”
In a press release, Ezra Levin, co-executive director of Indivisible (national) said: “As Michiganders see rising costs of living and health care, threats of data centers being built in their communities, and growing corporate influence over our politics, Abdul is offering something too rare in Washington: a willingness to fight. Abdul has built a grassroots movement focused on lowering costs, protecting communities, and taking on the powerful interests that have rigged the system against working people. Indivisible is proud to endorse Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate because he has the vision, record, and courage to challenge the status quo and deliver for Michiganders.”
Beyond earning SWIM and Indivisible’s endorsements, Abdul has been endorsed by eleven local Indivisible groups across Michigan, including many in rural and traditionally overlooked parts of the state:
- Eastern Upper Peninsula Solidarity
- Saline Indivisible
- Flat River Indivisible
- Indivisible Courage Together (representing Otsego, Montmorency, and Crawford counties)
- Tawas Indivisible
- Downriver United 734 – DU734
- Traverse Indivisible
- Indivisible Oscoda
- Ogemaw County Indivisible
- Arenac Indivisible
- Indy Next Gen (representing west Michigan)
“Indivisible members across the country have spent years proving that democracy is built from the grassroots up: organizing with neighbors, showing up for each other, and refusing to accept that this is the best we can do,” said Abdul. “I’m honored to earn Statewide Indivisible Michigan and Indivisible’s (National) support because ordinary people, organizing together, are more powerful than any billionaire or Super PAC. I look forward to working alongside Indivisible members as Michigan’s next U.S. Senator, building a politics that’s accountable to everyday Michiganders rather than the rich or powerful.”
SWIM joins a rapidly expanding coalition of endorsers backing Abdul’s campaign, including U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders and Chris Van Hollen, five current members of Congress, UAW, Working Families Party, MoveOn, National Nurses United, and more than 150 other elected officials, community leaders, unions and advocacy groups.
