UFCW Local 951 Endorses Dr. Abdul El-Sayed

MICHIGAN –  Today, UFCW Local 951 announced its endorsement of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan’s competitive U.S. Senate race. Representing more than 29,000 grocery, retail, food processing, and healthcare workers across West Michigan, UFCW joins a rapidly expanding coalition of labor supporting Abdul.

“Abdul El-Sayed is a fighter, not a career politician, who sees a broken system and will help workers make life more affordable,” UFCW 951 President Courtney Phillips, said. “Coming from a second-generation union family, he understands the challenges working families face every day. He knows firsthand the pride our sisters, brothers and siblings feel about their union membership and the work they do. Our members are tired of feeling the system is rigged and big business has the upper hand. Abdul wants to make sure everyone pays their fair share, and he wants to make sure workers have a seat at the table. This is what a real ally for working people looks like.”

Abdul has been endorsed by several other prominent local and national labor unions such as the UAW, National Nurses United, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, IATSE Local 26, The Graduate Employees’ Organization #3550 (GEO) and UA Local 174 Plumbers & Pipefitters. Abdul has also earned the support of labor champions including Senator Bernie Sanders, former Congressman Andy Levin, President of OPEIU Local 40 Dina Carlisle and several other local and national elected officials who lead in the fight for union rights.

“UFCW 951’s members know what our country has gotten wrong: billionaires, CEOs, and corporate giants squeeze us for higher prices, while forcing workers who keep their businesses running to work harder for less,” said Abdul. “The hardworking members of UFCW 951 keep our grocery stores stocked, help us with our needs, and care for our communities. They deserve leaders who will fight as hard for them as they work and fight for us every day. I’m honored to have earned their support because we all want the same things: a country where every worker has the power to organize, bargain for fair contracts, and earn the dignity, respect, and wages they deserve.”
