New Michigan Primary Poll Shows Dr. El-Sayed Ahead, While Stevens Gets AIPAC Boost
MICHIGAN – In a new MIRS-Mitchell poll that became public today, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed still leads the Michigan Senate primary pack. However, Congresswoman Haley Stevens is gaining as outside interests, including AIPAC, have spent millions on her behalf since the previous MIRS poll was in the field.
“Michigan voters are being bombarded by AIPAC’s ads for Stevens. And they are choosing to move from one establishment candidate to the other,” said campaign spokesperson Roxie Richner. “We cannot allow AIPAC to buy this seat. The next 50 days is about building our grassroots movement and making sure that every single voter gets the opportunity to show that Michigan voters will not be dictated to from DC.”
The last poll by MIRS had 38% of voters undecided and Senator McMorrow was still holding strong with 18%. Now, Abdul has dropped to a 9 point lead, undecided voters are falling into place, and McMorrow is sinking. The $16 million in pro-Stevens spending from AIPAC is closing the gap between Abdul and Stevens.
By the numbers:
- Among likely Democratic primary voters, Abdul is leading with 42%, Stevens is at 33%, McMorrow at 6%
- Since the last MIRS poll, Abdul gained 14 points, Stevens gained 15, and McMorrow lost 11.
- Abdul is leading among voters age 18-44 with 86%, with Stevens at 3%.
- McMorrow is polling at 0% with both Black voters and voters under 44.
