UA Local 174 Endorses Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate
MICHIGAN – Today, the United Association (UA) Local 174, representing plumbers, welders, HVACR technicians, pipefitters and steamfitters across 13 counties in West Michigan, endorsed Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate.
“Abdul understands that the world runs on labor,” said UA Local 174 in a statement. “He knows that hard work is what gets things done. But, more importantly, he recognizes that when folks are unionized, we can come together to build things that truly last. UA Local 174 proudly endorses Abdul because he has shown that he has labor’s back here in Michigan, and will continue to fight for the rights of workers in the Senate. ”
Local 174’s endorsement adds to the rapidly expanding group of labor groups backing Abdul’s candidacy. Abdul has secured endorsements from the UAW, National Nurses United, IATSE Local 26, and GEO Local 3550. He has been a card-carrying member of AFT Local 477 and 6244, SEIU Local 500, the National Writers Union, and the AAUP. Abdul has made labor a central part of his bid for Senate, particularly through his Labor Policy Agenda, where he outlines his plan to empower unions as a U.S. Senator.
“I am honored and privileged to receive an endorsement from UA Local 174,” said Abdul. “Union labor has been the backbone of this campaign because we have built it around everyday people and the right to a dignified life, not corporate interests or what elites in DC tell us. It is through their work that we have built up Michigan into a thriving state, and they deserve an unabashed advocate in the Senate who will stand up for their interests. I will always stand with my union brothers and sisters.”
