Dr. El-Sayed Campaign Surges to 10,000 Volunteers While Stevens is Nowhere to Be Found
MICHIGAN – Today, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign reached its 10,000th volunteer sign up. Meanwhile, Rep. Haley Stevens struggles to inspire a grassroots organizing program in any part of the state. Rather than building real connections with voters, the Congresswoman is hedging her bets by relying on $50 million in outside spending to try and buy this election instead.
Abdul volunteers are signed up and at work with opportunities in every region of the state to do so. This week alone, Abdul supporters can choose from 34 volunteering opportunities in Metro Detroit, 11 across the Upper Peninsula, 17 in the Northern Lower Peninsula, 26 on the west side of the state, and 3 in the Ann Arbor metro area.
The Stevens campaign, as of Tuesday, had 3 upcoming volunteer events posted. Total.
This last weekend alone Abdul volunteers knocked 20,840 doors with 450 volunteers turning out to grow the movement.
“Congresswoman Stevens has claimed to be the ‘workhorse’ in this race, and yet her campaign is not putting in the work,” said El-Sayed spokesperson Roxie Richner. “While 10,000 everyday folks come together to make calls, knock doors, and send texts for Abdul, the Stevens campaign has sat back and allowed corporations and special interests pour in $50 million to buy this seat. Michigan voters deserve a Senator who will work to earn their vote and participate in our democracy as it was designed to function.”
The Stevens campaign has been and is entirely reliant on outside spending. Of the nearly $50 million in TV ad buys on behalf of Stevens, not a cent has come from funds the campaign raised themselves.
“The Stevens campaign is woefully unprepared for a tough general election campaign, with no ground game to speak of, high negatives among the Democratic base, and a campaign entirely waged by outside groups and funded by Trump donors and corporations,” said El-Sayed Senior Advisor Max Glass. “That’s why general election polls have consistently shown Abdul as the stronger candidate against Mike Rogers this fall.”
This is not the first time Stevens has failed to make herself available to Michiganders. In 2018, Stevens signed a pledge to hold at least four town halls a year. However, it was reported that between 2022-2025, Stevens held only eight in-person town halls, including four not even in her district.
