NEW AD: Wayne County Commissioner Martha G. Scott Makes the Case for Abdul

MICHIGAN – Today, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign released a new ad “Martha”, featuring Wayne County Commissioner and endorser Martha G. Scott. The 30-second spot, produced by FIGHT Agency, highlights Abdul’s accomplishments as Director of Health, Human and Veterans Services for Wayne County and emphasizes Abdul’s leadership during the 2024 presidential election as one of the first prominent Muslim-Americans to endorse Kamala Harris.

Airing exclusively in the Detroit media market, the spot is narrated by Martha G. Scott, a fixture in Wayne County Democratic politics since 1972, when she served as a precinct delegate. In 1988, she was elected mayor of Highland Park, making her the first Black woman elected mayor of any city in Michigan. Later, she served her community for over a decade in the State House and then State Senate. She is currently a Wayne County Commissioner for District 3, serving parts of Highland Park, Hamtramck, and Detroit.

The ad comes as Abdul continues to build support across Wayne County. He has visited more than 25 senior centers in Wayne County alone, and fielded the endorsements of dozens of area leaders and organizations, including Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Wayne County Commissioners Sam Beydoun and Tim Killeen, the Black Slate, the Wayne County Democratic Black Caucus, The Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity Inc., Rev. Horace Sheffield III, and Detroit Action. It also follows his recent endorsement from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, adding to a coalition that spans both trusted local leaders and nationally recognized progressive voices.

Commissioner Martha G. Scott: My name is Martha G. Scott. I am a Wayne County Commissioner and a proud Democrat. And I’m darn proud to vote for Abdul El-Sayed for Senate. I know Abdul and Abdul knows what’s at stake. He was one of the first Muslim-American leaders to endorse Kamala Harris for president. As Wayne County Health Director, Abdul got glasses for kids and helped families out of medical debt. Now go get ‘em!

Abdul El-Sayed: Alright.

[Commissioner Scott laughs]

Abdul El-Sayed: I’m Abdul El-Sayed and I approve this message.
