Representative Analilia Mejia Endorses Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate

MICHIGAN –  Today, Representative Analilia Mejia (NJ-11) announced her endorsement of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan’s open Senate seat. A lifelong labor activist and union organizer, Mejia’s primary victory this February was seen as a massive upset and signaled growing support for unabashedly progressive candidates seeking to reject dark money in politics, pass Medicare for All, and provide for Americans, rather than funding genocide abroad. Mejia has extensive experience advocating for expanded labor protections, she served as political director for numerous unions and as deputy director of the Women’s Bureau of the Department of Labor. She has represented parts of northern New Jersey as the representative from the 11th District since April 2026.

“In the years I’ve worked at the grassroots level, I’ve rarely met someone more committed to building a just and fair world than Abdul El-Sayed.” said Rep. Mejia. “Abdul has consistently fought for a future in which communities do more than survive—they thrive. Whether it’s championing universal healthcare or putting people over profit through common-sense policies, Abdul has shown exactly the kind of leader he is. While New Jersey is my home, Michigan holds a special place in my heart and for my family. From Detroit to Muskegon, Ann Arbor to Traverse City, and everywhere in between, Michigan would be well represented by Abdul, and I’m proud to endorse him.”

Rep. Mejia joins a long list of federal office holders supporting Abdul. Abdul has received endorsements from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Ro Khanna (CA-17), Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Summer Lee (PA-12), Delia Ramirez (IL-3), Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, the Hon. David Bonior and the Hon. Andy Levin. Beyond members of Congress, Abdul has earned support from over 200 elected officials, advocacy groups, and labor unions, including the UAW, the AFA-CWA, the Working Families Party, National Nurses United, and more.
