AFSCME Endorses Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate

MICHIGAN – Today, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) endorsed Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. 

“AFSCME members know that Abdul El-Sayed will stand up for working families and public services against billionaires. Even with our good union jobs, corruption and greed are making life too expensive. Abdul has a real plan to bring down the costs of everyday essentials like prescriptions and groceries. And Abdul has worked alongside AFSCME members in Detroit and Wayne County, and has been a union member,” said Lorna Davison, president of AFSCME Local 1659 and a victim’s advocate for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. “We know Abdul values our work and will keep fighting for the essential services we deliver. AFSCME members are proud to endorse Abdul El-Sayed for Senate to deliver real results for working people.”

“I’m running for US Senate to make life more affordable for Michigan workers by getting money out of politics, putting money in your pocket, and passing Medicare for All. I couldn’t be prouder to have AFSCME join our movement to fight for better for Michiganders,”said Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. “AFSCME and their 41,000 members across the state will be absolutely critical in turning out the vote to beat Mike Rogers this November, and I’m honored to earn their endorsement.” 

Abdul has been a card-carrying member of AFT Local 477 and 6244, SEIU Local 500, the National Writers Union, and the AAUP, and has made labor a central part of his bid for Senate, particularly through his Labor Policy Agenda, where he outlines his plan to empower unions and working families. 

AFSCME is part of a broad, pro-worker coalition fighting to elect Abdul to the United States Senate, including the UAW, National Nurses United, Michigan AFL-CIO, AFT, MEA, AFGE, IATSE Local 26, GEO Local 3550, UA Local 174,  and over 300 elected officials, advocacy groups, and labor unions.
