NEW: LiUNA Michigan Endorses Abdul El-Sayed For US Senate
LiUNA Michigan’s Endorsement Adds To The Growing Coalition Of Labor Groups Backing Dr. Abdul El-Sayed’s Campaign
MICHIGAN – Today, the Michigan Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) announced its endorsement of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for US Senate, adding to the growing coalition of organized labor backing his campaign. The thousands of members of LiUNA are on the forefront of the construction industry in Michigan, a powerhouse of workers who are proud to build the U.S. and Canada.
“Working families across Michigan need someone who will go to Washington and fight for the middle class,” said Brent Pilarski, of the Michigan Laborers District Council. “Abdul El-Sayed has presented a plan that not only helps the middle class survive, but also thrive, by returning money to their pockets and making affordability a possibility. Abdul is ready to get to work and so are we.”
“LiUNA members have been at the forefront of the improvements that we have seen to our state’s roads and bridges over the last few years,” said Dr. Abdul El–Sayed. “I am incredibly proud to have LiUNA by my side in the fight to make life better and more affordable for workers in every corner of this state, and look forward to working with LiUNA to build a better, more affordable Michigan.”
Mike Rogers spent his 20 years in office voting against the interests of working Michiganders every chance he got.
- Rogers backed efforts to strip millions of workers of overtime.
- Rogers voted to repeal wage protections for construction workers.
- Rogers repeatedly voted to block the prevailing wage requirements of the Davis-Bacon Act
- Rogers opposed increasing the state minimum wage to $5.15 per hour and opposed increasing the federal minimum wage.
- During his 2024 campaign, union leaders attacked Rogers for enriching himself and large corporations rather than advocating for Michiganders.
- Rogers supported NAFTA which was “often blamed for contributing to offshoring and a decline in American manufacturing” and repeatedly voted to protect companies that were offshoring jobs.
LiUNA Michigan, is now part of a broad, pro-worker coalition fighting to elect Abdul to the United States Senate, including the UAW, National Nurses United, Michigan AFL-CIO, AFT, MEA, AFGE, IATSE Local 26, GEO Local 3550, UA Local 174, and over 300 elected officials, advocacy groups, and labor unions.
