“Here’s a man who talks every day about the high costs that American families are facing, and the corruption that is Washington and Donald Trump,” [Senator Elizabeth Warren] said. “It’s the life he’s lived. It’s a man who’s a public service doctor, and he’s in this fight because he wants to see an America where prices are lower for working families.”

“We are united in so much more than people like to point to that seems to divide Democrats,” El-Sayed said, citing issues like healthcare access, reproductive rights and labor issues. “These are the things that actually bring us together and we have an opportunity to actually get to work to address them.”

Senator Chris Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut, said that “Abdul is going to be able to cross over and get conservative, traditionally Republican support in Michigan. He’s more of a bridge-builder here than people think he will be. I’m all in.”

Senator Andy Kim, Democrat of New Jersey, who also met with Dr. El-Sayed, said that they connected as “dads just trying to make a better world for our little kids. We both know we’ve got a small window to make things right for them.”

Abdul: “We’re united in the fact that we have to win Michigan. Whatever our difference is, our agreement on the importance of winning Michigan to take back the Senate majority [is] overwhelming. We had a warm meeting, good conversation, and I know that we left that conversation committed to doing what we need to do to take on different perspectives. And I also know that the things that bring us together are so much bigger than any of the disagreements that we have.”
