Abdul El-Sayed Closes Final Debate With Powerful Message About the Promise of America
“Because I want America, the America I got to experience, to be America for all of her kids.”
MICHIGAN – In his closing remarks at tonight’s final U.S. Senate debate, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed delivered a deeply personal message about the promise of America and how corporate greed and political corruption have put that promise out of reach for too many working Michiganders.
Drawing on his own upbringing and the opportunities this country gave him, Abdul called for getting big money out of politics, lowering costs, and building a future where every child has a fair shot at the American Dream.

“Nobody appreciates the promise of America like somebody who understands exactly what America gave them.
“I got to go to great public schools, an amazing public university. I love this country. I love the Constitution and what it protects for all of us. But right now, it has gotten way too hard. Our politics have been bought off by big corporations, billionaires, and special interest buying and selling politicians in the same way that they bought and sold the person to my left his entire career.
“And what’s happened to all of us? Well, it costs too much to fill up your tank. It costs too much to buy groceries. It costs too much to see a doctor. It just costs too much.
“I had the privilege of traveling up north. We had 500 people in Iron Mountain, 600 in Escanaba, 1,300 in Marquette, all coming together around a vision for an America where it just shouldn’t be this hard.
“You deserve to have a union. You deserve to know that your politicians are not bought off by big corporations. You deserve better than a war that we’re fighting aimlessly that raises your gas prices, that raises the price of your groceries. You deserve to know that you can look your kids in the eye and know that their country is going to be better for them.
“Because I want America, the America I got to experience, to be America for all of her kids.
“We need to turn the page on Donald Trump, but that means we need to stand up to Donald Trump. We need to take on the corruption of our politics. We need money out of politics, money in your pocket, and Medicare for all.”
