Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and Sen. Elissa Slotkin Join MSNOW For Joint Interview Following Town Hall Appearance In Macomb
MICHIGAN – On Saturday, following their first joint appearance at a town hall in Macomb County, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and Senator Elissa Slotkin joined MS NOW for an interview on how Democrats have successfully unified to defeat Mike Rogers in November.
Sen. Elissa Slotkin: “People want to see a Jewish woman and Muslim man being able to get along, debate, push and pull on each other and move the state forward. Frankly, I think it’s good for Michigan, I think it’s good for the country to see that.”
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed: “The thing that neither Senator Slotkin nor I will ever budge on is that you ought to be safe in your place of worship—whether you’re Jewish, or your Muslim, or your Christian, or your Hindu, or your Sikh. And we all believe that this is a place that is better because of our diversity, and we want to fight to protect that.”
Outside of the event in Macomb, Christina Jolly, a Michigan voter, told MSNOW that having Slotkin on the trail with El-Sayed “means a lot,” and emphasized the unity of the Democratic party, stating “[y]ou have different beliefs where they do disagree, but they agree on what’s important for America.”

Today, MSNOW reported on Abdul and Sen. Slotkin’s event, speaking about the political value of their joint appearance and pointing to the growing coalition that has unified behind Abdul’s campaign.
On Money Power and Politics with Stephanie Ruhle, author, Ahmed Baba, spoke about the joint appearance, stating “I think it was an example of the big tent party that the Democratic party is trying to represent.” Josh Tyrangiel, Staff Writer for The Atlantic, stated, “to me, what they are trying to demonstrate is… we’re actually the same on this very important thing, we will get stuff done that will help you, and we will probably not talk as much about the stuff that we disagree about because nobody really cares about it anyway.”
