ICYMI: Mike Rogers Touts Supposed Healthcare Plan to Address Crisis He Helped Cause

MICHIGAN – Today, a new report from the Detroit Metro Times highlighted the blatant hypocrisy in Mike Rogers’ new healthcare plan—namely that he helped create the very problems he promises to fix. As a self-declared “champion” of Big Pharma, Rogers spent his entire career in Congress fighting against cheaper prescription drugs and increased healthcare access.

Championing Big Pharma’s agenda has been the through-line of Rogers’ career.

  • Rogers voted 19 times against measures to extend, expand, or increase funding for children’s health insurance.
  • Rogers voted nine times to block or restrict healthcare funding for 9/11 responders.
  • In 2006, Rogers was one of just 30 House members to oppose a motion that would lower prescription drug costs for American servicemembers.
  • By 2008, Rogers’ campaign took $108,000 from Big Pharma companies suing to block price caps on prescription drug costs.
  • Rogers’ campaigns and political committees received more than $1.13 million through July 2026 from the opioid industry and their lobbyists.

Rogers’ new “healthcare plan” is a transparent attempt to distract from his shameful record as Big Pharma’s greatest advocate.

  • Rogers calls his proposal “Healthcare That Works for Working Families” – though he spent his entire Congressional career attacking healthcare for working families.
  • Rogers’ plan doesn’t call for direct caps on manufacturers’ prices or new disclosure requirements specifically for drugmakers.
  • The so-called plan leaves out details about what, if any, new protections voters would receive, how those protections would be enforced, or how much they could expect to save.

Rogers’ record speaks for itself. Michiganders see through Rogers’ B.S and understand that given the opportunity, Rogers would eagerly resume his life’s work as Big Pharma’s greatest advocate.
