The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Two Presidents, One Lonely Bounce House, and Mike Rogers’ 48-Hour Train Wreck

Weekend Recap: Abdul’s Big Tent, Mike’s Failing Earpiece, and Two Very Different Closing Arguments

MICHIGAN – With Election Day just over a week away, Abdul spent the weekend packing rallies with President Obama and Sen. Bernie Sanders. Mike Rogers packed a whole lot of embarrassment into 48 hours before handing Donald Trump the microphone for his closing argument. Here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly from the second-to-last weekend of Michigan’s Senate race.

THE GOOD: Detroit with Obama. Grand Rapids with Bernie. Thousands of fired-up rallygoers and a dap for the ages.

The former president said it best: “Abdul is fighting for change, real change. Change that will bring an end to this war. Change that will get money out of politics and put money in your pocket. Change that will finish the job that we started with the Affordable Care Act, and guarantee quality affordable healthcare to every single American.”

THE BAD: One conveniently malfunctioning earpiece. One lonely bounce house in Pontiac. One very rough weekend for Mike Rogers.

Mike Rogers ventured into the unfamiliar territory of a non-Fox News interview, only for his earpiece to allegedly develop technical difficulties just as he was asked on Meet The Press whether a vote for him was a vote for Trump’s agenda. Meanwhile, a lonely bounce house at his reportedly empty “Democrats for Rogers” event in Pontiac offered a fitting metaphor for a thoroughly deflating weekend.

THE UGLY: Trump in Port Huron. Rogers at his side. Their shared agenda on the ballot.

Trump told Michiganders to “pretend that I’m on the ballot,” defended his disastrous war in Iran, and downplayed high gas prices as a temporary hit. And there was Mike, a glorified NPC in his own Senate campaign, playing the supporting role while Trump made his closing argument for him.
