ICYMI: Abdul El-Sayed Electrifies Crowd of Over 7,000 Michigan Democratic Party Delegates

DETROIT  – At yesterday’s Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) nominating convention, U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed roused the crowd of over 7,000 party delegates from across the state. In a night that culminated in progressive nominations across key down ballot races, Abdul received the first standing ovation of the day as he walked out to give his speech, according to Gongwer reporter Lily Guiney.

In a speech delivered on the main floor, Abdul spoke to the economic anxieties facing Michiganders and the responsibility of public servants to fight for the things we need and deserve. The crowd chanted back to him the campaign’s key message: Money out of politics, money in your pockets, Medicare for All.

“We need Democrats who are willing to take the fight to Donald Trump, who are willing to take the fight to the system that created Donald Trump, and are willing to go ten toes down,” said Abdul. The floor erupted into cheers of Abdul’s name as he left the stage. This comes after new Emerson College polling showing El-Sayed narrowly taking the lead as we close in on the last 100 days of the primary.

Huge swaths of delegates and volunteers joined Abdul as he spoke across various caucus rooms, demonstrating growing momentum and support from Michiganders across the state.
