Michigan Pastors Endorse Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan’s Open U.S. Senate Seat

MICHIGAN – Today, U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed announced a major milestone in his campaign: the endorsement of over a dozen pastors representing congregations from all across the state of Michigan. And tonight, he will continue to speak directly to the clergy community at the Detroit Council of Baptist Pastors candidate debate.

“I’m deeply honored to have earned the support of so many faith leaders who serve within and alongside of their communities every day,” said Abdul. “Faith leaders attend to their flocks in the best and worst of times. Their endorsement is about the shared values that unite us in the work of service. We’re building a campaign that brings people together across faiths, regions, and backgrounds to finally stand up for the things we need and deserve. Across Michigan people are looking for leadership that shows up and fights for dignity, justice, and opportunity, regardless of where folks come from or how they pray, and that’s exactly what I look forward to fighting for in the U.S. Senate.”

Throughout his campaign Abdul engaged directly with faith communities, attending numerous Sunday church services and participating in conversations with congregants and clergy across the state. This coalition of faith leaders reflects a broad and rapidly growing movement behind Abdul’s candidacy, one that spans geography, denomination and community. These endorsements demonstrate that from Detroit to Grand Rapids, Flint to the Upper Peninsula, his campaign has prioritized meeting people where they are, listening to their concerns and building relationships grounded in trust.

The endorsing pastors include: Rev. Dr. Tellis Chapman (Detroit), Pastor Robert Davis (Saginaw), Pastor Jerry Bishop (Grand Rapids), Pastor Rodney Tolbert and Evangelist Sandra Tolbert (Pontiac), Rev. Israel Siku (Grand Rapids), Pastor Michael Dorsey (Detroit), Bishop Alan Evans (Detroit), Pastor Larry Davis (Ypsilanti), Rev. Curtis Williams (Detroit), Pastor Lionel Anthony (Detroit), Pastor Jack Perkins (Detroit), Rev.
