MoveOn Endorses Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate
MICHIGAN – Today, MoveOn, one of the largest and most impactful grassroots, progressive public policy advocacy groups in the United States, with a membership of millions, endorsed Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan’s U.S. Senate race. MoveOn has become one of the most influential grassroots forces in American politics, helping power the election of bold progressive leaders across the country through massive voter mobilization, organizing, and advocacy campaigns. The organization has backed champions for healthcare, climate action, reproductive rights, economic justice, and democracy, including Abdul endorser Rashida Tlaib (MI-12).
This follows closely on the heels of another huge endorsement from the Working Families Party, yesterday. Together they signal a growing coalition of organizations and leaders rallying around Abdul’s candidacy, drawn to his consistent values and track record of showing up in the fights that matter most to working people. As the race gains intensity, Abdul’s message of affordability, dignity and real structural change in our politics is clearly resonating with the grassroots movements helping shape the direction of the Democratic party.
“MoveOn members are proud to endorse Abdul El-Sayed in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Michigan,” said MoveOn. “MoveOn members have made it clear that they want a fighter who will take on the status quo and can be counted on to deliver lower prices. Abdul El-Sayed is that candidate. Because of his track record of improving the healthcare system in Detroit, they trust El-Sayed to expand healthcare access for all Michiganders. MoveOn members are motivated to vote and volunteer for a leader who will put more money in their pockets and work to transform a political system that benefits the wealthy and well-connected, rather than everyday people.”
“MoveOn has never been afraid to stand up for our shared vision of equity, progress and sustainability in order to fight for the future we deserve,” said Abdul. “Their work has helped reshape our politics by proving what’s possible when everyday people come together to organize, mobilize, and demand real change. I’m incredibly grateful to earn their endorsement. When so many families are struggling to get by and so many Americans feel locked out by our politics, we’re building a movement that says loudly and clearly: our government belongs to the people.”
MoveOn joins a rapidly expanding list of other state and national advocacy groups and unions, including the Working Families Party, IATSE Local 26, National Nurses United, The People’s Coalition, Our Revolution, The Michigan Democratic Party Grassroots, Progressive and LGBT&A Caucuses and over 150 other elected officials, community leaders, and organizations.
