Dr. Abdul El-Sayed Reports $3.3 Million Haul in Three Weeks; Stevens Still Reliant on Shady Outside Spenders

MICHIGAN – Today, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed announces a surge in grassroots campaign support with over $3.3 million dollars raised so far in the month of July. The campaign reported over 61,934 digital donations from 49,689 unique digital donors with a $49.15 average digital contribution. Of these individuals, 68% were first-time donors – a clear sign that Abdul’s relentless campaigning is convincing undecided voters that his message is a winning one.

This is all against the backdrop of multiple polls released in the last few days showing Abdul with a clear advantage over Stevens. Tulchin Research released a poll this week showing Abdul leading Stevens by 16 points, following another released last Wednesday by Data for Progress showing him up by 13. Abdul’s surge in fundraising is indicative of his dedication to meeting Michiganders’ needs first, and the polling is reflecting it too.

“It’s clear which campaign has the momentum to launch a successful general election campaign,” said campaign spokesperson Sophie Pollock. “While Haley Stevens fundraising shrinks, Abdul continues to bring new, diverse Michiganders into a movement that is growing by the day. To keep Michigan blue, we must nominate the most electable Democrat in this race.”

While Abdul’s support surges, Haley Stevens is in a much more precarious position – she has shown negative small donor fundraising growth in her lackluster Q2 fundraising report. While Abdul pulled over 26,000 donations on ActBlue in the month of June, a major boost from 17,600 in May, Stevens is stumbling, fielding only 5,794 donations in May and 5,699 in June – a glaring indication that voters are nervous about her prospects in August and November.

In response to a campaign struggling to galvanize voters on the ground and energize donors, Stevens has chosen to rely on outside spending on her behalf rather than addressing the lack of enthusiastic support her campaign needs to win. Stevens’ campaign has had a combined $52 million spent on her behalf by AIPAC-affiliated groups and mysterious dark money organizations that are desperately trying to keep her in the running. These groups have largely focused on bad-faith attacks against Abdul and misinforming voters rather than touting Haley’s policies or vision for Michigan as they try to buy the primary election from Michiganders.
