MICHIGAN – New reporting from NBC News spells doom for Mike Rogers and Republicans across the country who are on the hook to defend Donald Trump’s disastrous trade war with Canada that is spiking costs for Michigan families.

“Donald Trump is launching this trade war for his own vanity, and he’s asking Michigan families to pay the price. Michiganders were already paying over $3200 a year for tariffs—over 50% more than the rest of the country because we share a border with Canada—and we have a president who cares more about his ego and saber-rattling than addressing the affordability crisis,” said Abdul. “Trump has been failing Michigan through these chaotic tariffs and bad trade deals for far too long. Mike Rogers won’t do anything but rubber stamp them. When I’m in the United States Senate, I’ll fight for real, fair trade deals that create good-paying jobs for Michigan workers and prioritize our families over billionaires and corporate greed.”

REMINDER

  • Michiganders are already paying $3200 a year due to Trump trade wars and are being squeezed by tariffs more than anywhere in the country, paying 55% higher than the national average.
  • Rogers has a deep record of selling out Michigan workers. “Rogers also voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, a law to prevent sex-based wage discrimination in the workplace, in 2007 and 2009. In 2008 and 2009, Rogers voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act, a bill that would have combated wage discrimination in the workplace.”
