In One Hour Debate With Empty Podium, Abdul Discussed Medicare For All, Holding Donald Trump Accountable, Slammed Mike Rogers For Up To $2.6 Million Worth Of Investments In Corporations Benefitting From AI And Data Center Boom
MICHIGAN – Tonight, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed joined the FOX 2 debate to lay out his plans to bring down costs for Michigan families.
As Mike Rogers was too chicken to show up, Abdul took the time to lay out why he will never pass up a moment to stand up for Michigan families:
“I think it’s important to realize that the individual who I’m running against… did not have enough respect for the people in the city of Detroit and across Michigan who are watching right now to take their hard questions. So here’s the thing you’re going to get with me. I’ll answer the hard questions. I have the courage enough to actually show up and have the conversation.”
Abdul talked about how he would work with the Trump administration while refusing to compromise on his values:
“Look, I’ll work with anybody to get a job done. I don’t have to like them. I don’t have to agree with them on most things. But if there’s a place where we can agree and we can get things done, I will be right there… But here’s what I’m not going to do. I’m not going to sell short my own values. I’m not going to be a sock puppet for Donald Trump. That’s exactly what Mike Rogers would do.”
He explained how his plan to pass Medicare for All will mean that Michiganders will no longer be nickel-and-dimed by corporations who are ripping us off—along with how he believes we should tax billionaires:
“We are being nickeled and dimed by corporations who exist specifically to hold our healthcare dollars and pay out as little as possible. We can do so much better than that. The amount of money that you end up paying under Medicare for All is substantially lower.”
“I also believe that we should be taxing billionaires’ wealth. Why? Because I care more that we provide things like childcare and healthcare and good schools and good roads, than allowing a billionaire to make their second billion. I don’t think that’s a crazy idea.”
He also laid out his plans to protect Americans from the existential risks of artificial intelligence and data centers while calling out Mike Rogers for holding up to $2.6 million of investments in corporations benefitting from the AI and data center boom:
On Data Centers: “Mike Rogers has up to 2.6 million dollars personally invested in corporations that would benefit from data centers… It is absolutely necessary that, at the federal level, that we pass public policy that does the following things: Number 1: If it’s going to make jobs, they better be good, union jobs.”
On Artificial Intelligence: “This cannot continue to be a race to the bottom as the richest people in society make robots that could ultimately end humanity, as they’re now talking about, while the rest of us have to deal with these hulking data centers in our backyard raising our utility rates and destroying our water. We can do better, it means regulation, and we needed that regulation yesterday, so the best we can do is tomorrow.
“Finally we need people who aren’t bought off by the corporations who are benefitting from this.
“Money Out of Politics means we should not have corporations buying and selling politics in ways that get them to look the other way, which is exactly what Mike Rogers would do. I wish he was here to talk about it, I really wish he was.”
